Operation Pacific Waves: Q&A With Thales

Iridium® sits down with partner Thales to learn about the company’s the Operation Pacific Waves experience.

What attracted you to participate in Operation Pacific Waves?

Since we launched our LINK by Thales solutions in 2019, we have always been excited to participate in missions that could truly display the capability of our systems, especially in challenging environments such as the Indo-Pacific region. Operation Pacific Waves (OPW) included so many experienced organizations participating, which made us very eager to join.

Can you tell us more about the products you demonstrated on this expedition? How does your technology work and what communications threads were you most eager to experience?

We demonstrated our Iridium Certus Connected® Thales MissionLINK™ 700, which is the only land-mobile broadband solution that currently runs on the Iridium® network.

Our solution, widely used around the globe, offers truly reliable communication in any terrain and even in adverse weather conditions. With an operating temperature of -60° to +55° C, our robust solution weighs only 7.5 pounds and is incredibly easy to use, providing reliable, truly global communication.

What would you like readers to know about OPW and your product(s) specifically? Are there any features or unique capabilities that stand out in the Indo-Pacific region?

At Thales, we take pride in the products we are able to deliver to our customers, and we truly believe Thales MissionLINK is the best land-mobile satcom solution. Our robust equipment is able to deliver the fastest speeds on L-band, without any additional parts. Over-performing in any type of environment is crucial for missions like OPW, and our participation in this type of project further confirms this.
