Operation Pacific Waves: Q&A With AnsuR Technologies

Iridium® sits down with AnsuR for a Q&A about their Operation Pacific Waves participation.

The ability to transmit Full HD video over Iridium Certus® from the Indo-Pacific region and have it viewed no matter where key stakeholders are on the planet is game changing.

AnsuR Technologies

What attracted you to participate in Operation Pacific Waves?

AnsuR Technologies and Iridium have a fantastic relationship, helping customers around the world stream high-precision video for mission critical applications. We participated in last year’s Operation Arctic Lynx (OAL) and were keen to demonstrate our combined solution again. Feedback has been tremendous. Additionally, many Operation Pacific Waves (OPW) participants are partners of ours, so we’ve been able to demonstrate a wide variety of live applications, such as Telemedicine, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) from aircraft, mobile in-flight video, and fixed-camera applications on land in concert with them. We are involved with Defense organizations worldwide and OPW is a great showcase for us.

Can you tell us more about the products you demonstrated on this expedition? How does your technology work, and what communications threads were you most eager to experience?

AnsuR Technologies enables optimized visual communications over low-bandwidth networks, such as the Iridium network. Our software-only solution, ASMIRA, provides Full HD video (1080p) on background IP at less than 200kbps, HD (720p) at around 100Kbps or less and SD (480p) at less than 50Kbps. This allows our customers to save costs on connectivity, improve video precision, and gives decision makers the critical situational awareness information they need to succeed.

ASMIRA is a software-only solution comprised of four main components, each of which can be integrated or embedded into various platforms. It uses the Sender at the edge to encode video and optimize transmission. This, in turn, connects to the Hub via Iridium’s network. Parameters such as bit rate, frame rate, and resolution can be changed at any time by the operator via the Controller. The video can then be viewed globally and simultaneously with different forms of Viewers.

What would you like readers to know about OPW and your product(s) specifically? Are there any features or unique capabilities that standout in the Indo-Pacific region?

OPW is the perfect arena for Iridium and AnsuR to demonstrate the power of our combined offering. The ability to transmit Full HD video over Iridium Certus® from the Indo-Pacific region and have it viewed no matter where key stakeholders are on the planet is game changing. Whether the applications are mobile on planes, unmanned and autonomous vehicles (UxVs), ships and body worn on war fighters or installed in fixed locations, the combination of AnsuR’s ASMIRA and the Iridium network is a powerful tool for getting situational awareness quickly and affordably across a large region, such as the Indo-Pacific.
