About the Expedition
Operation Arctic Lynx (OAL) is a partnership-driven field demonstration of Iridium® and Iridium Connected® technology, primarily focused above 60 degrees north latitude and stretching as far as 82 degrees north latitude.
Over a two-plus week period, from 11 June to 26 June, 2021, OAL includes an international contingent of more than 20 organizations ranging from the United States Department of Defense to scientific research institutions. A variety of exercises will take place deploying Iridium and Iridium Connected weather-resilient satellite communications technology on-base, on-the-move and remotely from the field.
During OAL, Iridium satellite PTT, unattended sensors, Iridium Certus® broadband, and other capabilities will display real time interoperability, communications-on-the-move, command-and-control and develop and maintain a common operational picture for military, civil and NGO applications.

The IC-SAT100 operates exclusively on Iridium Push-To-Talk services, and is compatible with the full portfolio of Iridium and Iridium Partner PTT products for seamless, global push-to-talk capabilities. Icom also offers the VE-PG4, a RoIP router to interconnect and manage latency of other radio technologies into a seamless communication.

SHOUT nano is a handheld, global, two-way satellite communication device and emergency beacon. It is designed with ultra-low power consumption electronics, and equipped with an LCD display and an on-screen keyboard allowing transmission of free text and canned messages. Data is sent in either standard or 256-bit AES encrypted format.
Iridium is the only communications network that provides reliable, truly global coverage. Iridium’s crosslinked mesh architecture creates a web of coverage in Low Earth Orbit. This, combined with our L-band positioning, enable low latency, weather-resilient communications – even in the polar and Arctic regions. Each Iridium satellite makes a full orbit around the earth approximately every 100 minutes.
As they circle the planet, the satellites converge at the North and South poles, creating excellent visibility for Iridium Connected devices in the Arctic and Antarctic regions.
